Blue Waves Chiyogami Paper

Cresting indigo and cobalt waves sweep across a pale blue sky in this traditional Japanese Chiyogami paper, with a small view of Mount Fuji appearing near the lower edge. Hand-printed using a layered silk-screen process, the design combines dramatic movement with precise linework and richly varied shades of blue. It is especially striking for journal and book covers, decorative boxes, framing, collage, card making, and other paper arts where a bold scenic pattern can become the focal point.

From the Atelier
We selected this design for the way it captures both power and stillness. The curling waves fill the sheet with movement, while the distant glimpse of Mount Fuji creates a quiet point of rest. Used across a journal cover, the pattern feels dramatic and expansive; cut into smaller pieces, each section becomes its own miniature landscape. It is a paper that rewards thoughtful placement and lets the maker decide which moment of the scene to preserve.
