Ivory cranes glide through sweeping bands of turquoise and cobalt blue, creating a richly layered pattern alive with movement. Delicate black linework, warm gold-toned details, scattered flecks, and tiny red accents give definition to the birds and flowing currents, while the deep blue ground lends the composition a luminous, almost nocturnal quality. Hand-printed using a traditional silk-screen process, this decorative Chiyogami paper is especially striking for bookbinding, journal covers, keepsake boxes, endpapers, collage, framing, card details, and paper arts that benefit from a bold sense of rhythm and grace.
From the Atelier: We selected this design for the beautiful conversation between flight and flow. The cranes appear to rise and turn above ribbons of water, giving the pattern a sense of freedom without losing its graceful order. Used across a full journal cover, the sweeping repeat feels dramatic and expansive; cut into smaller sections, a single bird or curve of blue becomes an elegant focal point. It is a memorable paper for pieces intended to celebrate movement, possibility, and the quiet discipline of making by hand.
