Overlapping folding fans create a rhythmic geometric pattern across a deep black ground in this traditional Japanese Chiyogami paper. Fine lines in muted gold and blue-gray give each fan a delicate woven appearance, while tiny accents of red and ivory add restrained points of contrast. Hand-printed using a layered silk-screen process, the repeating design is especially handsome for bookbinding, journal covers, decorative boxes, framing, collage, and paper arts that call for a sophisticated, dramatic pattern.
From the Atelier: We selected this paper for its balance of precision and movement. The overlapping fans form an almost architectural rhythm, yet the fine radiating lines and small flashes of color keep the pattern from feeling severe. It would make a striking journal or box covering, particularly when paired with black, natural linen, or warm brass details. Even a narrow offcut has enough structure to become a distinctive spine accent, endpaper, or correspondence detail.
