Playful, unexpected, and distinctly Japanese, the Ro-Biki Small Notebook – Kingyo brings the wit of Edo-period ukiyo-e to Ro-Biki’s beautifully tactile passport-sized notebook.

Part of the Ro-Biki Note Museum Series, the waxed-paper cover features imagery by celebrated Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, known for his inventive and often humorous woodblock prints. Here, goldfish and other aquatic creatures take on lively, human-like roles beneath the watchful gaze of a mischievous cat—a whimsical glimpse into the visual culture of nineteenth-century Japan.

The wax-finished paper cover is designed to develop character with use. As the notebook is carried and handled, fine wrinkles, scratches, and changes in tone gradually appear, creating an individual patina reminiscent of well-loved leather.

Sized to match a standard passport, the notebook slips easily into a pocket, bag, or travel case. Inside are 60 pages of premium ivory writing paper with a 5 mm dot grid, offering subtle structure for journaling, lists, sketches, observations, and everyday notes. The paper is selected for an enjoyable writing experience with pencils, ballpoint pens, fountain pens, and dip pens.

Thread binding reinforced with glue gives this compact notebook the durability to become a regular traveling companion.
