Whimsical, artful, and unmistakably Japanese, the Ro-Biki Small Notebook – Myokaikou brings the playful imagination of Edo-period ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi to Ro-Biki’s distinctive passport-sized notebook.
Part of the Ro-Biki Note Museum Series, the waxed-paper cover features Kuniyoshi’s The Fifty-Three Cats, a humorous interpretation of the famous Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido. A devoted cat lover, Kuniyoshi filled the composition with cats stretching, sleeping, playing, climbing, and getting into mischief—each pose cleverly referencing a station along the historic route.
The wax-finished paper cover is designed to change with use. As the notebook is carried and handled, fine wrinkles, scratches, and variations in tone gradually develop, creating an individual patina reminiscent of well-loved leather.
Sized to match a standard passport, the notebook slips easily into a pocket, bag, or travel case. Inside are 60 pages of premium writing paper with a subtle 5 mm dot grid, offering gentle structure for journaling, observations, lists, sketches, and everyday notes. The paper is well suited to fountain pens, pencils, and ballpoint pens, while thread binding reinforced with glue provides durability for regular use.
A charming choice for cat lovers, admirers of Japanese art, travelers, and anyone who appreciates a notebook with a story to tell.
