A work of Japanese art made to travel, the Ro-Biki Small Notebook – Tokaido pairs a celebrated woodblock image by Katsushika Hokusai with Ro-Biki’s distinctive passport-sized notebook format.
Part of the Ro-Biki Note Museum Series, the waxed-paper cover features a scene from Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, depicting travelers making their way across the Ōi River near Kanaya along the historic Tokaido road. Waves, distant buildings, travelers, and the muted blues and earth tones of the original print wrap the small notebook in a richly detailed landscape.
The wax-finished paper cover is designed to change as it is carried and used. Fine wrinkles, scratches, and variations in tone gradually appear, allowing the notebook to develop an individual patina reminiscent of well-loved leather.
Sized to match a standard passport, it slips easily into a pocket, bag, or travel case. Inside are 60 pages of premium ivory writing paper with a 5 mm dot grid, selected for a pleasant writing experience with fountain pens, pencils, and ballpoint pens. Thread binding reinforced with glue gives this compact notebook the durability needed for travel, journaling, observations, and everyday notes.
A fitting companion for journeys both near and far—and a small celebration of the enduring connection between art, paper, and travel.
